Wayne Spreads The Word at The Commonwealth Club

Wayne LaPierre was the guest speaker last Thursday, March 11, 2004, at a San Francisco meeting of the Commonwealth Club of California. Wayne gave an excellent speech - as always - and his straightforward style, passion, and irrefutable facts seemed to silence the anti-gun activists who were present in large numbers. Many local MC members were also present and had a great time. Click here for one such member's account.

Highlights for me included an explanation of how political polarization can actually be a good thing, for it can break political gridlock and lead to positive change. There were many historical examples of polarizing "lines drawn in the sand", such as Patrick Henry's famous speech and Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" breaking the paradigm of loyalist colonial thought. Of course, Wayne also debunked many gun control myths and showed very clearly the rift between public opinion and media agendas about guns. He also showed how the media's lies often work to the NRA's political advantage.

This was an important event, as the Commonwealth Club of California is a respected and very widely followed public interest forum. Wayne's speech is scheduled to be re-broadcast on KQED radio, 88.5FM, on Friday, March 19, 2004, 8:00P.M. Please tune in and listen.

1/30/01: The Senate today confirmed Gale Norton as Secretary of the Interior on a 74-24 vote and confirmed Christine Todd Whitman as head of the Environmental Protection Agency by 99-0.
