The Anti-gun lobby often twists facts and distributes outright lies in trying to promote their failed agenda. For example, they often claim that gun control enjoys the support of law enforcement when the truth is just the opposite (see Police Survey Reveals Attitudes Regarding "Assault Weapons")

Proponents of 'Mandatory Reporting of Loss/Stolen Firearms' claim the ordinance is an important tool in the tracking of street firearms and straw puchasers. In reality, in those cities that have passed this bad idea, senior officers responsible for prosecution of firearms violations don't even know it exists.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE YOU OBTAINED INFORMATION ABOUT THE LAW IN SAN FRANCISCO REQUIRING THE REPORTING OF STOLEN FIREARMS. I AM AN INSPECTOR WITH THE SF POLICE DEPARTMENT. MY SOLE RESPONSIBILITY IS INVESTIGATING FIREARM CRIMES AND HAVE BEEN DOING SO FOR 8 YEARS. MYSELF AND THE D.A.'S OFFICE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS LAW. Thank you for the info. I assume it is in the "Municiple Code" that I do not have a copy of. Very much appreciated. As you may have been informed, the DA's Office and the City Attorney I spoke with had no knowledge of this.

In considering this ordinance at the present time, Sacramento has learned of the complete lack of subsequent prosecution in areas that have passed it. In spite of such glaring evidence, some members of the Sacramento City Council continue to ignore their own reseach and vote to the detriment of their constituents in supporting this flawed legislation.
