Great Western Shows to Defend Themselves in Court!

September 8, 1999

The Great Western Show has been attacked and defamed by Los Angeles County Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky, Gloria Molina, and Yvonne Burke. They have called our 2200 exhibitors and 100,000 annual attendees, including Congressional Medal of Honor recipients honored at the shows "merchants of death." The board of supervisors has passed an ordinance banning firearms and ammunition sales at the LA County Fairgrounds. We plan on following two legal paths. First, we are filing a law suit against the county. Damages for this suit are expected to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Second, we are seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the ordinance. Should the TRO succeed, the Fall show will be held in its full capacity. Should the TRO fail, we will have the show without firearms and ammunition sales. Moving the Fall show at this late date is impossible. We at Great Western Shows are committed to fighting this injustice with every resource we can muster. Our legal bills, however, are expected to reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you would like to help the Great Western defend itself, you can send a check to:

The Great Western Legal Defense Fund
PO Box 51510
Irvine, CA 92619

Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Chad Seger
